Albert Einstein (1879­1955) was a Nobel laureate physicist whose 
groundbreaking theories made him the most famous scientist of the 
20th century. His general theory of relativity replaced a mechanical 
world view held since Newton. Einstein emigrated from Germany to the 
United States when Adolf Hitler came to power. He continued his work 
at Princeton University and also became involved with numerous social 
causes.
